For more than half a century, Guinness Book of World Records has documented world records, achievements and extremities of the natural world. The first edition of the Records was compiled in August 1954, since then Pakistan has slowly and gradually made its mark. Pakistan is a God gifted country, rich in both human and natural resources. When it comes to world records, Pakistan and Pakistanis do not lag behind anyone!

1) World’s Largest “Human National Flag”

On Monday, 22 October 2012  More than 24,000 Pakistanis gathered to form the world’s largest “human national flag” in the eastern city of Lahore, smashing a five-year-old record set in Hong Kong by 21,726 participants!

2) Most People Singing a National Anthem

A huge crowd of 42,813 singers at the National Hockey Stadium in Central Lahore raised their voices to the tune of Qaumi Tarana as the world echoed with the Pakistani National Anthem!

Abdul Sattar Edhi began his ambulance service in 1948. Today the network includes 500 ambulances all over Pakistan. Ambulances are radio-linked and the organization attracts funds of US$5 million a year. Great work by Edhi Sahab. Hats off to his untiring efforts for the people of Pakistan!

A 101-foot-long kurta made by Pakistani craftsmen has been certified as the largest garment by the Guinness Book of World Records.The kurta weighed approximately 800 kg and was made by 50 professional tailors in 30 days. An effort to be commended!

5) The Largest Human Picture

It took 1,936 local school children, each with a printed placard, standing together in perfect harmony to create a large-scale mosaic feature picture of the Lahore Fort.

6) Youngest Civil Judge

Muhammad Ilyas made the history by passing the examinations enabling him to become a Civil Judge in July 1952 at the tender age of 20 years 9 months. Due to some medical formalities, he started work eight months later as a Civil Judge in Lahore.

7) Most Girls In A Car

Girls have always been standout performers and the pride of the nation. In 2010, nineteen A’ level students fit themselves into Two-door micro car to set The World Record in Karachi. Previously the record was held by Australians where a group of 18 students compressed themselves into a standard car.

8) Youngest Microsoft Certified Professional

Arfa Abdul Karim Randhawa, in 2004 at the age of nine, became the youngest Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP). She kept the title until 2008. Unfortunately Arfa is no longer with us, but she will always be alive in our memories! RIP Arfa Kareem! RIP!

Another Pakistani genius student Ali Moin Nawazish, then an 18-year-old boy, was determined to get some good grades. He took a long list of A-Level exams hoping he could secure some good grades in a few of them. He ended up with 22 A grades, 1 B and 1 C. Hats off to the genius!

10) Largest Irrigation System

Pakistan’s Indus Basin Irrigation System (IBIS), is the largest contiguous irrigation system in the world. It comprises of three large dams, eighty-five small dams, nineteen barrages, twelve inter-river link canals, forty-five canal commands and a staggering 0.7 million tube wells.

The youngest player to play an international one-day match is Hasan Raza of Pakistan, who was only 14 year and 233 days old on his debut against Zimbabwe on October 1996. Unfortunately, Hasan Raza couldn’t forge a successful International career, but that can be attributed to bad luck and nothing else.

According to the Guinness Book of World Records, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan holds the world record for the largest recorded output by a Qawwali artist. A total of 125 albums were dished out by the legend and each one is like a greatest hit collection.

13) Operating On The Oldest Patient

Dr. Naeem Taj, a Laparoscopic Surgeon, successfully conducted surgery on a 107-year old woman at Capital Hospital, Islamabad. The woman’s name was “Chanan Jan”, and Dr. Naeem removed 30 gallstones from her gallbladder. The record before that was a surgery by Dr. David D. Dan of West Indies who operated on a 92-year-old patient.

14) World’s Heaviest Kidney Stones

Well, this one is also a record from the medical world but quite different from the one just before! Surgeon Dr. Malik Husain Jalbani and Dr. Ghulam Shabir Imran Akbar Arbani and their assistants at Chandka Medical College, Larkana, set a world record by removing the world’s“heaviest” kidney stone in 2008. The Kidney Stone weighed an astounding 620g and the body of the patient, Wazir Muhammad, will never be the same again.

Jahangir Khan holds the record for the longest winning streak ever in squash. He won 555 matches consecutively for a period of five years. Jahangir Khan redefined squash for the world and his contribution to the popularity of the sport is unparalleled.

Meher Gul, apart from being an excellent chess player had another talent. The 12-year-old chess champion arranged the chess set in just 45.48 seconds to become a part of Guinness book of world records. She’s fast!

17) World Record For Ear-Lifting

Zafar Gill has broken the world record for ear-lifting, carrying almost 65 kilograms from a cord attached to his right ear. Gill had to use a special head grip to protect both his ear and temple, as he lifted the weight for seven seconds about 10 centimeters off the ground. Strong guy, strong ears!

18) Heaviest Vehicle Pulled With The Beard

The world record for pulling the heaviest vehicle with a beard is also with a Pakistani, Mohammed Sadi. He demonstrated the strength of his mighty whiskers by pulling a Hyundai truck weighing 1,700 kg (3748 lb) over a 63-metre course.
